Salvation (Reaching)
At The Point, it is our mission to make disciples, as Jesus Christ told us to do.
Matthew 28:19 "Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,”
Because our mission is to go and make disciples, we believe that every person needs to have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. So, you’re sitting here, wondering what all this talk about “salvation” and “Jesus” really is about, right? Lets start by taking a look at Jesus, the person.
Jesus
The Bible tells us that Jesus is God incarnate; He is God the Son, eternally one with God the Father and God the Holy Spirit. He alone can forgive our sins and give salvation from eternity in hell.
The writer of Hebrews explains pretty well how Jesus forever changed the way we communicate to God, and how He communicates to us.
Hebrews 1:1-3 “Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world. He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power. After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high.”
Many people believe that Jesus lived, was a good teacher and a very spiritual man, but they deny that he is God. A diluted Jesus is not the real Jesus. We must be careful to believe in the Jesus that he himself declared he was. Jesus, throughout the Gospels (the books of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John) repeatedly made claim to being God. Paul warns us that we must remain sincere and pure in our devotion to Christ, as the serpent (Satan) deceived Eve and deceives others, even today. (2 Corinthians 11:3).
Throughout history, the Bible has remained true and constant. The stories told in continue to be proven over and over still today, through various historical documents telling and retelling the story of Christ, as well as the rest of the Bible in its entirety. We believe Jesus is true. We believe his is who he says he is. So we must believe his claims.
Jesus said that he was the only way to heaven. In John 14:6, He says “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” He makes this claim earlier in the book as well.
Starting a Relationship
Once you truly believe that Jesus is who he says that he is, accepting his salvation from hell is simple. Sin (things that go against the perfectness of God) separates us from God. Everyone sins. But, because Jesus Christ came to the earth, lived a sinless life (because he is God), then his gift of eternal life can be offered.
You see, reading through the history of Jesus’ life, we see that he was tortured and murdered, for doing nothing. He was buried in someone else’s tomb. And three days later, he rose from the grave. Romans 10:9 tells us “if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.”
It’s very simple. When you believe that Jesus Christ is who He says His, and when you believe that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
The not so simple part… when you truly believe what God said is true, you will make Jesus Christ your Lord. If you truly believe these statements, these truths, then you will make God the lord of your life. You will live for Him. You will build a relationship with Him. And that, my friend, is salvation. A prayer doesn’t get you to heaven… truly believing does.
